"Super Dem" Voters in Upper Gwynedd 4,5,6 will Gather for Brunch + Live Music | Sunday, June 2nd Noon-3pm
Come by our house to enjoy some muffins, eggs and juice, and get to know other neighborhood "Super Dems"
My husband, Ken, who is the Judge of Elections in Upper Gwynedd-6 (and a Democrat) and I are hosting a gathering for all “Super Dems” in Upper Gwynedd-4, 5 and 6. This means we are inviting all Democrats with an excellent voting record who vote at Gwynedd Square Elementary School. (A “Super Dem” is a Democratic voter who voted in four of the last five elections, both primary and general.) The brunch will be in the backyard of our house, 1625 Kristin Circle, Upper Gwynedd, on Sunday, June 2nd from noon to 3pm. We’ll have some brunch food and a live band.
It’s not a fundraiser. We just want all like-minded people who vote at Gwynedd Square Elementary School to gather and get to know each other, because we believe that we’re better together than we are apart. Ken and I are inviting State Representative Liz Hanbidge, and U.S. Representative Madeleine Dean to the gathering to speak (though there’s no guarantee that they’ll be able to show up.) I’ll post again if either one of them accepts our invitation. If the candidate(s) are present, there will be a discreet QR code available for those who wish to give, but no overt fundraising.
I hope to make Upper Gwynedd 4, 5, and 6 a model of community-building for Montgomery County Democrats. I’m annoyed at how much time the Montgomery County Democratic Committee (MCDC) spends raising money from big donors, and how little time they spend cultivating enthusiasm and a feeling of belonging among dedicated voters — voters who, after all, are likely politically-minded influencers in their own social circles.
To be fair, MCDC and local Democratic candidates are constantly cash-strapped and understaffed. The candidates often actually dislike raising money, but in a post-Citizens United environment, this is the lay of the political land.
But to spend little to no time building community among regular Democratic voters except when they need bodies to door-knock or phone bank for a campaign — both of which are becoming a questionable use of volunteers’ time in the days of Ring Cameras and caller ID — seems to me a poor long-term strategy. We need alternatives.
In order to change things in our county’s Democratic Party, the first step is for you to turn out to show MCDC you are enthusiastic about being together as Super Dems. Ken and I hope to see you there! Please let me know if you’re coming to the brunch at keiser.faith@gmail.com by no later than Memorial Day weekend, so we can plan the right amount of food. We look forward to seeing you there!
